The new mother is fed a special diet that is prepared by her mother using traditional spices such as uda, uziza leaves, mkpuruuziza and ehuru spices to help the afterbirth recovery process. During omugwo, the new mother is pampered and her tummy bound with a wrapper to help it snap back. She is also given special baths and massages by her mother to help her relax and feel rejuvenated. The new mum gets much needed sleep because her mum is there to help tend to the baby.
In Canada, the reality is very much different because many families are immigrating without the extended families making it difficult for the new mother to adjust to this exciting phase of her life. This leads the new mother to depression and anxiety for something that should otherwise be a beautiful experience. And this is where we step in at OmugwoCanada.
Here, we celebrate the birth of our babies as a village. We do our best to make sure that mother and baby are well taken care of during this journey just as they would by their mother. We help the new mom adjust to this new life in every way we can. By providing this support, it is our hope that new mums approach this journey with as much excitement and celebration as we do!
"OmugwoCanada made my pregnancy journey in Canada stress-free and enjoyable. From the comfortable accommodation to the delicious meals, everything was perfect."
